SODA DRIVE – Pedal of the Day

Thanks to Pedal of the Day for featuring the Soda Drive!

Read the full review here:

http://www.pedal-of-the-day.com/2014/10/28/raygun-fx-soda-drive-overdrive-distortion

The newest offering from RayGun FX across the pond in England is the Soda Drive, a small, stylish pedal that can give you a little bit of the Blues or a whole lot of the Rock, and is my first foray into this super-friendly company from the UK. I’ve got a couple of their pedals I’m going to review in the near future, but let’s start it off with this great little Baby Blue drive pedal, shall we?

The controls are nothing new: Volume, Tone and Drive, just about par for any basic overdrive pedal. This difference here is in the sound. There’s nothing in this pedal I would call a “Clean” boost, by any stretch of the words, which I think is just fantastic (let the Boost pedals do the clean boosting, right?). Even at low Drive settings, there’s a rough, slightly overdriven tube amp sound happening, adding a great little bit of bluesy crunch to your tone. Around noon, the drive starts to become more and more prevalent the more you crank it up. By the time it’s maxed out, your amp is so thick and full of sonic gooeyness you don’t know what’s going on, only that you sound better than you ever have before. The Soda Drive produces really warm, old-school tube amp sounds, exactly what you need to jumpstart your playing and bring your overall tone to the perfect peak.

Small, sleek, great design and great sounds, the Soda Drive is an awesome pedal for any collection or pedalboard. Thanks again to Steve and RayGun FX for allowing me to check out a couple of their pedals – stay tuned for more reviews of theirs in the near future, and see what else they have to offer on their website as well!

https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulCorruptionBand

Beautiful Corruption are a four-piece alt-rock band from Kilkenny.

Having started in January 2013, they have released one Ep, “Blind” and are currently recording a second, smaller, and a lot heavier Ep entitled “Snakes and Ladders”. This summer alone they broke into the festival scene by opening one of the stages at Light Colour Sound, won a battle of the bands competition and played multiple gigs around the south east.

They’re heavily influenced by Queens of The Stone age, The Foo Fighters, and anything else with distorted guitar, loud drums, groovy bass lines and powerful vocals.

They are Oisín (Lead vocals and rhythm guitar) James (Lead guitar and backing vocals) Simon (Drums) and Brandon (Bass).

Feel free to drop us an email if you have any questions – steve@fuzzboxes.co.uk

Also, I have some exciting Pedal news to come very soon too!

ALL BECOMES CLEAR

ALL BECOMES CLEAR are a rock band from the Lake District, UK.

Escucha

1459855_778062532210734_1258748810_n

https://www.facebook.com/Listentoescucha

Escucha formed in Folkestone, Kent in around 2002 and quickly went to work defining their sound, drawing on influences from the Scandinavian punk scene such as Jr Ewing, Selfmindead and Breach, along with the soaring post-rock landscapes of Explosions In The Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Escucha recorded a debut EP and played a handful of shows locally, gaining acclaim for the feral energy of their live performances and the quality of their recording, before disbanding in 2005, following a slow and gradual disillusionment with various aspects of working together and with the music scene as a process.
After 7 years out and with a new back-line and guitarist along for the ride, Escucha reform to inflict their distinctive form of Avant-Garde Punk Rock on the stumbling scene.

Searching for Kim

Rock band from Toronto who are slowly climbing towards a goal of commercial success.

https://www.facebook.com/searchingforkim

Matthew Di Leo: Vocals
Zach Marsh: Drums
Nate Mantle: Lead Guitar
Paul Dimerin: Rhythm Guitar
Kay Kim: Bassist

The band was formed in Burlington during the latter months of 2010 by Matt Di Leo and Sean “Doh” Restivo, and initially named the band “The Cranes”. A few different members rotated in the band’s roster on lead and rhythm guitars, with the only other constant member at the time being drummer William Boose. Their first gig was at Sheridan College on March 14th, 2011.

Shortly after this first gig, the band changed their name to Searching For Kim. More permanent members were also found when Nate Mantle and Paul Dimerin joined the band on lead and rhythm guitars respectively. It was during this time period that Di Leo wrote several songs, 3 of which would later become part of their EP. In the months following this, the band performed a few gigs at venues such as the El Mocambo and Lola’s in Toronto. However Doh and Boose left the band at the end of 2011. These vacancies would only last for a couple of months before an audition process was started by the band to find a new drummer and bassist. About five people auditioned for each of these positions and the band quickly discovered a fit with then-16 year-old Zach Marsh, who was accepted into the band in January of 2012. The addition of Marsh to the band was crucial to their ability to branch out.
Marsh wasn’t the only new member to join the band. For a period of roughly six months Nic Capobianco joined the lineup as the band’s bassist. He performed once with the band on April 22nd, 2012 at the Sound Academy in Toronto. However Capobianco ended up being a divide for the band.

By this point the band had become serious about finding proper success. At the beginning of the summer Capobianco left the band. Following the departure of Capobianco, the band decided to compile their best work into an EP. Working with Our Lady Peace founder and former guitarist Mike Turner throughout the summer, Searching For Kim released their debut EP, “Paper Cranes & Hand Grenades”, on October 31st, 2012.

Shortly after the EP’s release, longtime guitarist Paul Dimerin went to Scotland to pursue a masters degree. Not wanting to replace Paul, Matt took up the guitar to temporarily fill his position.

In late February 2013, Kay Kim who was a previous acquaintance of guitarist Nate Mantle, became SFK’s newest bassist.

SFK then went on to test the waters by performing in venues like The MOD Club on April 30 and The Velvet Underground on June 8.

Herida

Three guys on the off chance of being in the same room when the door slammed decided to hit record to see what would happen.

‘EP-01’ – Four tracks laid the blueprint of what was to come.
They started giggin two months later.(2009)

‘Ghost of the Sun’ – Full length Debut, 12 tunes of downtuned righteousness. (2012)

Layed out at Creative Studios and self financed.
Available from:
www.herida.co.uk
amazon/cd baby!/itunes

In the vein of the original power-trios of the 60’s/70’s but with the extra 40yrs of musical knowledge under their belts it would be crass to suggest they defy genre.
In fact, they reflect on what they know and add the dimension of free spirited comradery which comes with the confidence and trust that when each one steps up to the mark it’s with the intention pushing the envelope a little bit more.

Shoppers are expected to turn to online shopping at unprecedented levels this holiday season, but not just to buy for their own family. Retailers are starting to use the technology to encourage shoppers to buy in store at a larger number of locations and get their purchases at lower prices.

“We’re putting together a lot of data to see how the shopper experiences are evolving and what the key drivers are,” said Michael Mankin, chief executive of Retail Systems Group, which operates the technology behind the loyalty program.

The program allows shoppers to sign up for specific stores at a time and purchase online at any one of them without going through the website. For instance, shoppers can sign up to go to a Target store to buy a T-shirt and buy a different, lower-priced shirt from the site at the same time.

Target and other retailers have been testing similar programs for several years, but the technology is now entering more sophisticated stages. On Dec. 8, the company introduced a new loyalty system called Target Advantage, which allows shoppers to earn points by going to Target stores and doing specific tasks, like buying things and collecting points when they shop.

Target plans to take advantage of that market opportunity, too, by offering customers different programs like Homecoming and Kids First, the companies said, they are also planning on offering a lot more online coupons on websites like https://www.raise.com/coupons/target. Target’s loyalty program began accepting applications last week for Kids First, a program for families in which kids earn points for participating in an assortment of activities and also get a discount on some items. Homecoming, which has been available in the U.S. since 2010, lets families earn points by going to Target and buying things like home dcor and gift cards.

Shoppers can find a full list of deals and offers on Target’s website, and they’ll be automatically collected by the loyalty programs when shoppers sign up for them. Each program is built around specific themes: Homecoming’s is about fashion, while Kids First offers things like kitchen toys, children’s games and educational materials. The goal is to get consumers to use the rewards programs on a regular basis, and the programs are designed to encourage that kind of behavior.

When consumers shop online at Target, they’re not just using an application to shop — they’re interacting with the actual Target website, creating a real-world shopper experience.

But what about when a store’s website isn’t part of a loyalty program? And what about a program that doesn’t include a physical location? These are the kinds of situations that prompted Target to add a Target Rewards Hub to its app earlier this year. Using a combination of GPS tracking, customer data, and social media data, the Target Rewards Hub identifies and tracks the locations of locations where consumers can redeem rewards points on the Target.com website. If Target’s rewards programs and the mobile app work together, customers will be able to earn points and rewards points will be earned and redeemed at locations where consumers like to shop.
